Hush Bistro-Farmingdale, New York

Owned by Chef Marc Anthony Bynum, 2x champion on the Food Network’s “Chopped”. Hush Bistro is located on Main Street in downtown Farmingdale. It’s a small quaint restaurant with limited seating perfect for a cozy date night atmosphere. It has an open kitchen which allows you to watch the chefs at work as they prepare the meals.
I went to Hush Bistro with a good friend of mine on a Friday night after work. We had an 8:45pm reservation and were seated promptly when we arrived. We started off the evening with an order of Crab Cakes. As you can see in the picture, these crab cakes were made with lump crab meat and no filler. They were the perfect start to our meal.
For our entrees we ordered the smoked St.Louis style ribs with chipotle bbq sauce and pickled watermelon. This is one of the most or the most popular item on the menu that I am aware of. As soon as the fork hit the ribs, the meat started to fall off of the bones. The ribs were extremely tender and finger lickin’ good. Even though the meat came right off the bones, I still picked them up to savor the whole experience. They definitely lived up to their reputation.
As my side I ordered the Mac-n-Cheese. Wow! This was really thick, rich, creamy and cheesy. It had green peas, bacon and corn bread crumbles in it. I enjoyed this so much I could have eaten this as my entree. We also had an order of collard greens flavored with Applewood smoked bacon and chorizo. Amazing! These were the most tender greens I have ever tasted. They were not overcooked, just cooked to a point where they were soft, silky and full of flavor.
Everything was perfect up to this point. Next we ordered dessert and this is where the meal fell short for me. We ordered the Strawberry Shortcake. The presentation was lovely but this was not what I was expecting at all. Instead of cake, it was made with a cookie of some sort. That is the best way I can describe it. Unfortunately, it just didn’t do it for me. I was quite disappointed since dessert is a big highlight of the evening for me. I look forward to ending my meals, especially one of this caliber, with a good dessert.
I will definitely give Hush Bistro another try. Next time I will go for brunch. They have a nice variety of waffles listed on their menu that sound appealing to me.
Overall it was a nice dining experience. It is a bit pricey so you have to be prepared when you go but the quality of the food is good.
Enjoy~Allison
