Smorgasburg has arrived in Smorg Square at the corner of Varick and Canal Streets! I am so happy the newest location opened right around the corner from my office. I have been hearing nothing but great things about Smorgasburg in Brooklyn for a long time. I haven’t had a chance to make my way over there so I was elated to see a new location pop up in Manhattan.
Most of the food and truck festivals I have attended recently have had enormous lines. By the time I finally get to the front of the line, the food I want is sold out. Because I went during the middle of the lunch hour rush, I expected to wait in long lines. However, this was not the case. This was the most pleasant experience I have had this year. There were only 5-6 people on line ahead of me for each vendor.
I walked around the entire Square before choosing what I was going to have for lunch. There was a nice variety of foods to choose from. All the food was cooked fresh. There were several things that I would have loved to have but I finally chose the Shrimp Po’ Boy and some dumplings. There were Lobster Rolls, tacos, Poutine, brisket sandwiches, Jamaican cuisine, pizza and more.
My Shrimp Po’ Boy was delicious. The shrimp were hot and seasoned well. The remoulade had a slight kick but it was not overwhelming. The dumplings were good too. I’ll be back next Friday to check out some of the other options. It’s a nice way to start my weekends! I’m looking forward to sampling some more good food.
