While dropping my son off at college, I decided to see if the Food Network had featured any restaurants or bakeries in the area. I came across Coccadott’s Cake Shop, finalist on Cupcake Wars. With great anticipation, my daughter and I made sure to pay them a visit before heading home. We bought a dozen cupcakes; six for my son and his roommate and six for us to take home.
The cake shop has a cute appearance both inside and out. The outside is decorated with a bright pink sign and polka dots. Inside they have a little black table and chairs for wedding consultations. The cases are full of a huge variety beautiful brightly decorated cakes, cupcakes and cookies with names like “Sex and the City”, “I’m Nutty For You”, “Milkshake”, “Luscious Lemon” and more. For dessert lovers like myself, it was like walking into paradise.
In our dozen cupcakes were Red Velvet, Cannoli, Caramel and Sea Salt, Cookies and Cream and more. Just looking at the cupcakes, I had very high expectations. The Red Velvet was good although the flavor of the cream cheese frosting could have been more robust. I was slightly disappointed with the Caramel and Sea Salt cupcake. I was hoping to be wowed by this one because it has recently become my favorite cupcake from my local dessert shoppe and cafe, Kiss My Cake. I did not like the taste of the caramel in the center of the cupcake. I generally am not a fan of anything with cannoli filling. However, their Cannoli cupcake had icing with a nice cinnamon taste. The cinnamon really set this cupcake apart from other cannoli cakes and cupcakes I have had. My favorite of them all was the Cookies and Cream. This cupcake was scrumptious!! The cake was rich and delicious. The icing was perfect, not overly sweet. The consistency, taste, and richness of this cupcake is what I would expect from a finalist on Cupcake Wars. I didn’t think the other cupcakes were on the same level as this one.
There was just so much to choose from at Coccadott’s. I can’t wait to go back and sample some other flavors during my next trip to Albany.
Enjoy~Allison
